We all know that Solar Energy is becoming more common and more affordable, but where is Solar Energy being utilized most, and what can we do to help this resource grow? The answer lies in technology such as that deployed in microgrids.
In the image to the left, microgrids are increasingly being deployed in a number of states and you can see the potential for even more growth. You may be asking yourself what exactly a microgrid is and we have the answer: Microgrids are electricity distribution centers that can store energy and distribute it efficiently. These systems can be a part of a power grid or be completely isolated making them prime real estate for local energy generation.
Microgrid systems are most commonly deployed on campuses, military bases, and other communities that utilize a fair amount of energy. By 2018, microgrid capacity in the US will exceed 1.8GW which is an important precursor in the renewable energy world. Though currently microgrid technology is extremely expensive, you can recognize the need for this type of energy as it is more reliable than other systems currently being used more commonly.
